Decorative carved, gilded and polychrome surfaces give many historic buildings their distinctive character, and are the work of highly skilled craftspeople. We provide a broad range of services to ensure the ongoing protection and conservation of these surfaces, starting with condition surveys and treatment recommendations. We are skilled at consolidation and conservation cleaning, which may include the removal of inappropriate coatings and stabilisation of the substrate. Repair may involve the filling of surface or substrate losses, retouching and recurving or remodelling missing decorative elements. Throughout the process, we use traditional materials and source suitable paint and pigments based on discrete sampling of the original.
