Completion of Phase Four: A Showcase of Conservation Excellence

DBR successfully completed the fourth phase of conservation works in the V&A’s Madejski Courtyard. Since November 2021, our team had acted as Principal Contractor, delivering conservation of the façades, mosaics, and majolica panels across all four elevations.
This multi-year project showcased DBR’s expertise in specialist stonemasonry, terracotta and brick repair, and fine decorative detailing. We extend a huge thank-you to everyone involved for their exceptional work and commitment.

Ongoing Craftsmanship and Visible Transformation

Updates from the Madejski Courtyard highlighted remarkable progress. With scaffolding removed from the East Side, the contrast between the newly conserved elevation and the untreated South Side clearly demonstrate the precision and care of DBR’s craftspeople.
Our team had been hard at work cleaning and repairing ornate terracotta, brick, and mosaic façades, while also carrying out fine joinery decoration, exemplified by talented team members. DBR continue to collaborate closely with the V&A Estates Team, Arup, and Avison Young to deliver conservation of the highest standard.

We are proud to announce that the V&A Museum Madejski Courtyard project had been recognised as a finalist for the 2025 RICS Heritage Award as well as a 2025 AABC Conservation Award: Regional Finalist. These nominations honoured the years of meticulous work carried out by our highly skilled craftspeople and celebrates the strong partnership between DBR and the V&A.
