Chris graduated from the University of the Creative Arts in Canterbury with a Diploma and Distinction in Planning and Design, before receiving practical training in the office of the then Chief Architect of the British Rail Board. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1970 and went on to join the Department of the Environment, working within the Directorate of Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings. There, he managed significant works at the Palace of Westminster, including extensions and accommodation projects for the House of Lords, carefully programmed around parliamentary recesses.
Chris later became Area Architect for the Midlands and subsequently joined English Heritage at its inception, progressing to Regional (Principal) Architect and later Regional Design and Works Manager. In 1997, he transferred to the London Region, overseeing landmark sites including Kenwood House and Eltham Palace.
Since joining DBR in 2005 as in-house Conservation Architect and Design Coordinator, Chris has strengthened the company’s pre-planned maintenance, regeneration, and health and safety services, contributing to projects such as the Old Royal Naval College, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Hampton Court Palace.
