Conservation at Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London. Located just to the west of the Palace of Westminster.

It is one of the most notable religious buildings in the United Kingdom. Westminster has been the traditional place of coronations and burials for English, and later British monarchs, as well as many royal weddings.

In 2015 Conservation at Westminster Abbey began. DBR Conservation was in charge of cleaning and consolidating the delicate carvings on the North Porches of the Abbey. Sections of which were extremely friable and in danger of falling. The Reigate vaults required the most urgent attention, and the conservators carefully defrassed the scaling stone, until a base was reached that could take a colour matched shelter coat.

Additional work included mortar repairs to the gargoyles and medieval bosses.
