Rising above the Palace of Westminster, Victoria Tower is one of the most recognisable features of the Parliamentary Estate. Constructed in Anston Magnesian Limestone and Clipsham Oolitic Limestone, its intricate masonry and soaring height require regular specialist inspection to ensure the continued safety and preservation of the historic fabric.
DBR was appointed to carry out a detailed inspection of the tower's masonry using a 103-metre cherry picker, allowing conservation specialists to safely access areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach. The high-level survey enabled the team to closely examine the condition of the stonework and identify areas requiring immediate attention.
During the inspection, loose masonry posing a potential risk was carefully removed to safeguard both the building and those below. Localised netting was also installed around fractured pinnacles to provide temporary protection while preserving the historic stonework.
By combining specialist access techniques with conservation expertise, DBR provided a thorough assessment of the tower's masonry condition while undertaking essential safety measures. The project formed an important step in protecting one of the United Kingdom's most significant historic landmarks and supporting its ongoing conservation.
