Along the top of the building, the granite coping stones formed the final line of defence, shielding the parapet wall from weather and water. Over time, movement and exposure had weakened their stability, making careful intervention necessary.
The works began with the safe removal of the granite copings. Each stone was lifted with precision to prevent damage and to expose the structure beneath, allowing engineers to assess and address underlying weaknesses.
Structural strengthening works were then carried out to the parapet wall. Cintec anchors were installed to reinforce the masonry, binding the structure internally without altering its outward appearance. At the same time, the coping stones themselves were strengthened using stainless steel angle brackets to provide additional support once reinstated.
With the reinforcement complete, the granite coping stones were carefully reinstated to their original positions. The parapet regained both its protective function and its familiar profile, strengthened discreetly from within while appearing unchanged to the eye.
