The Sovereign’s Robing Room, one of the principal fine rooms within the Palace, is where the Queen prepares for the State Opening of Parliament. 

Designed by E.M. Barry, its wealth of sumptuous decorative finishes, including gilded linen-fold oak panelling, painted glazing, polychrome joinery and a magnificent marble and mosaic chimney piece, emphasis its highly ceremonial function.

In 2014-2015, DBR Conservation was responsible for essential conservation work of its ornate fabric as well as extensive regilding. The scope of work included:

~The cleaning of all delicate carved wood, polychromy and gilding~

~Repairs, replacement and French polishing to lower joinery, doors, and window sills~

~The commissioning and replacement of decorative window grilles~

~Conservation cleaning of the flock wallpaper~

~Repair and cleaning of the stone door and window surrounds, as well as redecorating~

~Polishing the brass door rosettes~

~Cleaning, consolidation and regilding of the ornate fireplace~

~Cleaning and repair of cracked painted glazing~

~The cleaning and conservation of two fire gilt brass figures of St. George and St. Michael~

DBR Conservation was also responsible for the conservation of twenty-four carved and gilded polychrome statuettes of Anglo Saxon princesses, which included conservation reports and original archival research. For an example of the DBR Conservation Saxon Princess Final Report, please click  here.
