St Saviour’s House in Bristol is a building steeped in history, and its Chapel sits at the heart of that story. DBR is proud to be undertaking the first phase of its restoration, a careful programme designed to preserve the building’s character while securing its future.
This isn’t just maintenance; it’s a chance to safeguard a piece of Bristol’s heritage for generations to come.
The project begins from the top down. Existing clay tiles and lead roof coverings were being carefully removed, making way for new tern-coated stainless steel coverings and insulation. Essential timber repairs to the roof structure are being undertaken where necessary, ensuring the Chapel is both structurally sound and weatherproof for decades ahead.
Attention then turned to the building’s masonry and render. DBR’s skilled masons carried out repairs, repointing where needed, and cleaning the stonework to reveal its historic beauty. A copper-based masonry wash was being applied to protect the surfaces, enhance their appearance, and ensure long-term resilience.
Every intervention is performed with care and precision, respecting the original materials and techniques while integrating discreet modern enhancements.
External decorations will be refreshed, breathing life back into the Chapel’s façade. The building’s windows were being professionally cleaned, allowing light to flood the interiors once again and restoring the clarity and character of the historic glazing.
This first phase at St Saviour’s House Chapel celebrates craft and heritage, strengthening the roof and renewing details so the building remains resilient, dignified, and ready for its continuing story.
