The Role We are seeking a full-time Estimator or Senior Estimator to join our dynamic Estimating Department in Vauxhall. This is a prime opportunity for a professional who wishes to expand their knowledge further within the Refurbishment and Conservation industry.

The ideal candidate will hold a high grade in a construction-related degree or HND/HNC and possess 5-10 years of experience in construction. A strong understanding of stonework, brickwork, roofing, and first fix carpentry/joinery is required, with specific experience in the refurbishment or conservation of external fabric being highly preferable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tender Management: Read and analyse tender information to fully understand project requirements.
  • Scope Review: Review the full scope of works and accurately mark-up various trades.
  • Costing: Price in-house trades efficiently, accounting for labour, plant, and materials.
  • Supply Chain: Prepare and send out enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotes.
  • Client Consultation: Meet with clients, surveyors, and architects on site. This may involve reviewing works where full tender documents are provided or providing expert advice to guide the project.
  • Site Assessments: Visit sites to assess the scope of works, meet subcontractors, and review their scope to ensure accurate pricing.
  • Take-offs: Read, understand, and take off measurements and details from architectural drawings.
  • Site Measurement: Take physical dimensions and details during site visits to allow for accurate pricing of materials.
  • Documentation: Prepare bespoke Schedules of Works (SoW) and Bills of Quantities (BoQs) to provide accurate costings.
  • Programming: Prepare tender stage programmes of works using relevant software.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in quality submissions and tender compliance.

Post-Tender: Follow up on submitted tenders and manage the handover of secured projects to the contracts team.

Experience required

  • Education: A construction-related degree is preferred. However, an HNC/HND combined with strong industry experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience in construction, specifically within masonry and conservation sector.
  • Certification: A valid CSCS Card is required.
  • IT Skills: Good computer literacy is essential. You must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
  • Specialist Software: Experience with Causeway Estimating software and Bluebeam Take-off is desirable but not essential.
