DBR #conservation is excited to be back on the scaffold at the V&A museum. Our team of skilled conservators are working on the wonderful large gilded English earthenware mosaic within the triangular pediment on the northern façade of the Lecture Theatre Block.
Part of the start-up of the project included the satisfying cleaning of the ceramic surfaces. The subtle rich colour were revealed as we removed the years of grim and pollution.
Works continued through delicately removing the old failed resin repairs with tungsten tipped chisels and dental tools. Once the lacunae are cleared of the inappropriate materials, they will be ready for the new mortar and replacement tesserae.
Previous work by DBR Conservation at the site can be seen here.
DBR London recently received the Royal Warrant in recognition for quality and excellent service, which can be understood in detail here.
