DBR Conservation very excited to start the restoration of the external murals for The Lookout, an educational centre in Hyde Park London. The first phase of the project involves the cleaning and tracing of the original design in order to recreate them in phase two with a variety of earth pigments such as yellow ochre, raw and burnt sienna and umber. The final phase will involve treating the restored panels with special marine varnishes that will protect the exposed panels from the weather and the UV light for many years to come.
Some lovely scenes of DBRs conservation team hard at work at the LookOut.
This includes sanding back the deteriorations on the wood, transferring original designs onto prepared panels, and beginning careful layering of special marine varnishes, all while having fun!
