Publication Date: January 2025

Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

DBR limited is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2030. This is consistent with the UK Government’s commitment under the Climate Change Act and goal of 2050 and will play a significant role in the decarbonisation of the United Kingdom as a whole.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline year: 2022 – 2023
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
Our carbon emissions for 2022-2023 have been measured by Planet Mark, to produce a baseline emission record which we can use to create a pathway to net zero.

Our emissions were as follows:

Buildings – 15.4 tCO2e
Travel – 47.3 tCO2e
Waste – 0.2 tCO2e
Water – 0.3 tCO2e
Procurement – 0.3 tCO2e
Homeworking – 0.6 tCO2e

As this was our first year of collating data our focus was acquiring primary data and as close to 12 months data as possible.

Baseline year emissions:

Our base year emissions were assessed with data from our head office and our two yards.

Emissions Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 66%
Scope 2 21.1%
Scope 3 (Included Sources) 12.9%
Total Emissions 63.5 (tCO2e)

Current Emissions Reporting

Reporting year: 2023 – 2024
Emissions Total (tCO2e)
Scope 1 We are currently measuring our second year of emissions with Planet Mark. This is the reporting year 2023-2024 which we expect to receive this summer.
Scope 2 Currently being measured by Carbon intelligence as above.
Scope 3 (Included Sources) Currently being measured by Carbon intelligence as above.
Total Emissions Currently being measured by Carbon intelligence as above.

Emissions reduction targets and Carbon reduction projects

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets and initiatives.

  • Continued Internal Net Zero Group meetings
  • Measured our first year of emissions to form a baseline
  • Reviewed Energy, waste, environmental and sustainability policies (annually reviewed)
  • Introduced a Car idle reduction scheme for our fleet
  • Banned single use plastic bags for materials, using reusable only
  • Continued use of electrical vehicles on site at the Palace of Westminster
  • Donations of left-over crafts to colleges to avoid waste
  • Established a PPE recycling initiative
  • Promote carbon reduction internally and online
  • Put carbon reduction at the forefront of our decision making
  • Aligned with the principles of and Achieved the ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems standard.

Our Timeline: A 7-year plan to net zero by 2030.

2024 Year 1: DBR Net Zero team up with Planet Mark to assess and gather baseline emissions. adopted DBR net Zero group initiatives above.

2025 Year 2:  Baseline emissions received. DBR Net Zero are currently (January 2025) gathering and submitting year 2 data. Once received we can assess impacts from baseline to year with new yard and initiatives in place and create a pathway with planet mark for the next 5 years.

Years 3-7 (2026, 2027, 2028, 2029, 2030): Steps we will be taking:

Joining Planet Marks ‘pathway to Net Zero’  in 2025 to curate our step-by-step path to Net Zero by 2030.

Working with Planet Mark we aim to:

  • Develop a strategy to reduce emissions.
  • Set achievable GHG reduction targets.
  • Set organisation wide emission reduction targets.
  • Identify and utilize carbon removal schemes.?
  • Continue progress with the initiatives
  • Introduce new initiatives in line with where we need to decrease emissions

Beyond 2030:

  • Upkeep our monitoring to ensure we are compliant with net zero and assess new ways to reduce emissions and keep innovating
  • Review and assess our initiatives annually and as required to ensure they reflect us as a business
  • Keep up to date with legislation and standards and audit our ISO14001 annually.
